Steven Paul is a creative producer and director with over 20 years experience in film, television, advertising, marketing, and media communications. He has produced several award-winning short and feature films, ranging from drama and comedy to sci-fi and horror, as well as commercials, branded content, music videos, and emerging media for various sectors and audiences. He is currently a senior creative producer at Creativa, a full 360-degree production and creative agency in Melbourne, where he works on various projects for brands and clients.
Steven was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. He developed a passion for storytelling and visual media from an early age. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts with a major in cinema studies from Latrobe University in Victoria and then continued his education at the prestigious Victorian College of the Arts, where he obtained a Graduate Diploma and a Master’s Degree in Film & TV.
Steven's debut narrative feature as a producer was an independently funded film adaptation of Dostoevsky’s masterpiece novel Crime & Punishment, which premiered at the prestigious White Nights Festival in St Petersburg, Russia, and won numerous awards at film festivals around the world. His latest feature, How Do You Know Chris?, a drama about friendship and betrayal, was released in Australian cinemas in late-2020 and is now available to stream.
Steven has also produced and directed many short films that have screened and won awards at national and international film festivals, including Academy Award qualifying festivals. Some of his notable short films include Acts of God, which was selected for the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) Accelerator program and nominated for the Short Grand Prix award at Warsaw Film Festival; Long Way Down, which premiered at Montreal World Film Festival and screened at over 25 festivals worldwide; Mother’s Day, which premiered at Flickerfest, Australia’s leading Academy Award accredited and BAFTA-recognised short film festival; Galactic Sex Wars, which won the Best Australian Short Film award at the Melbourne Queer Film Festival (MQFF), the largest queer film festival in the Southern Hemisphere.; and Status, which won the jury prize for Best Science Fiction Short at the Maelstrom IFF and the Best Screenplay award at Dark Carnival Indiana.
